Gokulam Kerala FC, the former I-league champions, on Tuesday, announced the signing of the talented Ugandan striker winger Abdu Lumala. This exciting addition is set to bolster the team’s attacking options ahead of the upcoming I-League season.

Abdu Lumala, born on July 21, 1997, in Kampala, Uganda, brings a wealth of experience and skill to Gokulam Kerala FC. Lumala has had an impressive career, showcasing his talents in various leagues across the world. Last season he played for Croatian top tier club Slaven Belupo. His journey includes stints with notable clubs such as Pyramids FC in Egypt and Kalmar FF in Sweden.

The native of Kataba village, Abdu faced a lot of hardships to earn a name in the professional football circuit. He reached Sweden in search of greener pastures and secured a contract with a lower-division club Gualövs GoIF. His performance impressed the scouts and he then received a call for the youth team of Mjällby AIF, a famous club in Sweden. He initially played for their U-19 and U-21 teams before graduating to their senior team. He donned their shirt on 29 occasions and netted 4 goals in the Swedish second division Superettan.

Subsequently, after spending two seasons in Egypt, he returned home by signing up for the Vipers SC.

We are delighted to welcome Abdu Lumala to Gokulam Kerala FC,” said the club’s President, VC Praveen. “His speed, agility, and creativity on the wing will undoubtedly enhance our squad’s attacking prowess. We believe his international experience and dedication will inspire our team to achieve greater heights this season.”

Lumala’s footballing journey has also seen him represent the Ugandan national team, contributing significantly during the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2019.

I am excited to join Gokulam Kerala FC and take on this new challenge,” said Abdu Lumala. “I have heard great things about the club and its passionate fan base. I am eager to contribute to the team’s success and bring joy to the supporters.”

Abdu has big shoes to fill. He needs to fill the void left by Alex Sanchez, who scored 20 goals last season in 28 matches for the Malabarians.
