Nikola Stojanovic’s Journey from Belgrade to Jamshedpur FC

Jamshedpur FC midfielder Nikola shared insights into his football journey, personal values, and aspirations in an exclusive profile interview, tracing his growth from a young boy playing near his home to representing clubs across different countries before finding a new chapter in India.

Journey was quite interesting and with a lot of experience and learning in all these years with a lot of memories. I started like a kid in front of my house with friends from the same area and then after some people saw that I have some talent, I soon became a player of Partizan Belgrade FC,” Nikola recalled.

He credits his grandfather and the close people around him for shaping his path. “I think my grandfather and also people around me who are close to me. Today, they are part of my family. I consider them family,” he said.

Reflecting on his experiences across various football systems, Nikola observed the differences between European and Indian youth setups. “The difference is in the system of youth academies and development. Boys who have some potential are taken into a system of work built by old experienced coaches. India has so much talent and potential that, with the right system of work from a young age, can achieve something great in world football,” he added.

Having played in multiple countries, Nikola described his journey as one of growth and gratitude. “Going to Greece was something new. I was very young and not ready for that level, but I learned a lot with the help of friends and family. Finally, coming to India was a great experience. India really gave a lot to me and my family and I am happy to be here. I hope I will be able to give back with my knowledge and experience to Indian football so we can go forward together and achieve great things,” he expressed.

Nikola’s Indian chapter began with Mohammedan SC, where he quickly adapted to the rhythm of Indian football. His performances earned him a move to Gokulam Kerala FC, where he became an integral part of the midfield. Later, he joined Inter Kashi, continuing to impress with his consistency before taking the next big step in his career by signing with Jamshedpur FC. He had the experience of 75 games in Indian Football before coming to ISL.

Joining Jamshedpur FC, Nikola said he felt an instant connection with the club. “It’s nice that I got the chance to become a JFC player. The club really showed seriousness and professionalism in their approach to me, and I felt great so I decided to join. I am positive that this is and will be a good decision.

Describing his football philosophy, Nikola said, “My playing style is simple. As I am a midfielder, I always like to have the ball. I believe in attacking mentality with no fear to anyone but respect to all. My style is based on a winning mentality – to win no matter what. Also, to be dedicated on and off the pitch and live for football 24/7.” He credited coaches Miodrag Djilas, Bojan Grujicic, Andrey Chernyshov, and Antonio Lopez Habas for influencing his growth.

Among his career highlights, Nikola fondly remembered last season’s title triumph as a special moment. Off the field, he keeps life grounded and simple. “I enjoy with people that I like and love. I like coffee and spending time with people. I like to learn and improve every day.”

He also shared how personal trainer Uros Medjedovic has helped him maintain his fitness and discipline over the years. “He takes care of me and my body for a lot of years now. It completely changed my way of work since I started working with him.”

Finally, Nikola had a heartfelt message for the Jamshedpur fans: “I would like first to thank them for the warm welcome. I hope football will continue soon and we will see each other at the stadium. I will give my best to make them happy alongside my teammates.”
