After releasing Hector Yuste and Brandon Hamil, it turns into an obvious question, “who will be the next successor of their shoes?”

After many hot rumours, Mohun Bagan Super Giants have announced the arrival of Spanish defender Alberto Rodriguez from Indonesian club Persib Bandung. Rodriguez becomes Bagan’s 4th signing of the summer, joining Jamie Maclaren, Apuia Ralte, and Tom Aldred.

How skilled Alberto is :

  • Rodriguez, the Spanish stopper began his senior career with the lower-division Spanish club Aruca (5 seasons)
  • Alberto made over 100 appearances following a successful spell with the Segunda División side Lugo in 2021.
  • Rodriguez moved to Asia last season, becoming a key player for the Indonesian club Persib Bandung and helping them secure the league title in his first season.

•As a center-back, Rodriguez can play both left CB and right CB.

•He is comfortable with both feet. His aerial superiority is also worthy and he is quick during the counter-attack. These qualities will benefit Bagan’s boss Molina.

After announcing Jose Molina as the head coach of MBSG, he praised Alberto a lot, “Alberto is a defender who, with his strength and aggressiveness, can lead the backline. Apart from being a good defender, another quality he holds is to contribute to the offensive third’s creativity. Moreover, he is comfortable on both feet. He played a crucial role in helping his side become champions of Indonesia (top-tier league). I am happy that he has decided to play for the best team.

After the announcement, Alberto gave an interview to MBSG Media. He looked happy and confident there.

Usually when I am playing in front of a jam-packed crowd, it helps me give my best and in India, in this regard, there is no other club parallel to Mohun Bagan. Mohun Bagan fans are the best when it comes to support and emotions. My main aim is to defend the ISL Shield and win all the tournaments the club will participate in. Joy Mohun Bagan!

“I have been following the Indian Super League for the last few years. I have also witnessed how Mohun Bagan claimed the ISL Shield in a dominating fashion. But the main reason I signed for Bagan is their fanbase,” he added.
