As a turn of surprise, Brandon Fernandes, who is a midfield maestro and one of the most loved footballs from Goa, has made his comeback for Mumbai City FC. This return to Mumbai comes after a very successful seven-year stint with FC Goa where he is considered one of the greatest players in the club’s history.
Brandon started his ISL journey as a Mumbai City players with a brief two-match spell in the 2014/15 season. After this, he honed his skills with Goan clubs like Salgaocar and Churchill Brothers before truly flourishing at FC Goa from 2017.
Fernandes has a lasting legacy from his time at FC Goa. He scored 17 goals and provided an incredible 31 assists in 130 total appearances. His vision and pinpoint passing were a nightmare for opposing defenses, consistently creating goal-scoring opportunities for his teammates. He was not just a creator; wearing the captain’s armband indicated that he was also an inspirational leader for FC Goa.
Fan’s can’t forget his contributions in FC Goa’s historic triumphs. His role was instrumental in their victories in the Super Cup, ISL League Shield, and Durand Cup. His departure leaves a void in the Goan midfield, but their fans will forever cherish his dedication and the magic he weaved on the pitch.
A Fond Farewell from FC Goa
FC Goa recognized Fernandes’ immense contribution. Ravi Puskur, CEO of FC Goa, expressed his heartfelt farewell: “Brandon wore the badge of FC Goa for seven years with great pride and was a fantastic ambassador for the values the Club stood for on and off the pitch. He became ingrained into the fabric of the Club and was one of the pillars upon which sporting success was built in the seasons he was with us. Mumbai City FC, a team looking to reinforce its midfield, has re-signed a player who is not only skilful but also knows the league very well. Fernandes’ presence will be of tactical value and it will enable them to plan for the season.
