Kickstart FC has booked their spot in the final of the Indian Women’s League with an impressive victory over former champions Sethu FC. The highly anticipated match took place in Ahmedabad and saw Kickstart FC dominate the first half, securing a comfortable lead with two crucial goals.
Prior to the game, Coach Langam Chaoba Devi made two changes to the lineup from the previous quarterfinal match against HOPS FC. Kioko Elizabeth and Oinam Babita Devi were brought in, replacing Renuka and Sonia Marak, respectively.
Right from the start, Kickstart FC exhibited control over the game. Their dominance translated into early opportunities, as Dalima’s free-kick in the third minute narrowly missed the target. Sethu, Madurai found themselves overwhelmed by the energetic Kickstart FC side. In the 11th minute, Banti Sharma’s well-executed lobbed pass found Kioko Elizabeth, who skillfully evaded a defender and slotted the ball between the legs of the onrushing Sethu, Madurai goalkeeper, giving Kickstart FC the lead.
This opening goal injected Kickstart FC with much-needed confidence against the former champions, setting the stage for their dominant display. Despite Sethu, Madurai’s efforts to find an equalizer, luck eluded them. Kajol D’souza and Priyanka Devi both struck the woodwork with their shots. On the other hand, Saru Limbu, the talented Nepali international who has consistently impressed throughout the tournament, seized an opportunity and unleashed a remarkable shot that found the back of the net, doubling Kickstart FC’s advantage.
In the second half, Sethu FC intensified their efforts to reduce the deficit. However, Kickstart FC’s resolute defense stood firm, successfully thwarting the opposition’s attacking threats. As the match progressed, both teams began to feel the effects of the demanding climate, resulting in a slightly slower pace. Sethu, Madurai piled on the pressure in their quest for goals but remained unsuccessful. Kickstart FC’s defense, led by Captain Dalima Chhibber and Wangkhem Linthoingambi Devi, delivered an outstanding performance, effectively shutting down their opponents.
In the final, Kickstart FC will face the winners of the match between Eastern Sporting Union and Gokulam Kerala FC, which promises to be an exciting encounter.
